Will-this-be-okay-itus
and how to cure it
I moved house yesterday.
Months of waking up to the thought “Will everything be okay?” ended this evening, looking out at the stars from the backdoor of our new place, standing next to the person who is my universe, knowing, safely, that everything would be.
This week’s letter will be brief.
I made a stop motion film once.
I’d never done it before.
It wasn’t for money. It wasn’t for likes. It wasn’t for homework.
It was just for me.
I felt like I was a kid again. Messy fingers making messy painting.
To an outsider it probably looked like it was made by a kid.
But to me, it was the start of something new:
Creating for the sake of creation.
Since then the spirit remained the same, the creations varied:
YouTubed
Designed websites
Built a sound proof booth
Grown an audiobook business
Made showreels and websites for my friends.
Started a business around helping actors (in progress)
This newsletter is also an extension of that stop motion film I made 5 years ago.
It partly exists to help more adults make things for the sake of making.
But It also exists because I love to make it.
Create more, more often. The world needs more people who make things for the joy of it.
Whether a film, newsletter, or a home – trust that pushing through the uncertainty leads to clarity. When you do, that nagging question "Will everything be okay?" answers itself.
Have you created anything that made you feel like a kid playing about in a sandbox? I’d love to know.
(I have to apologise for not sending you out the promised picture last week - this house malarky got rather in the way. So I’m going to make it up to you this week - I’ll be making a song for anyone who replies to this email.)
Happy making,
Alex
